Ex-supermodel reveals why she’s no longer pretending to be OK after her husband’s death

A model has claimed she is no longer pretending to be OK following the death of her husband — after posting a tearful video on the anniversary of his death.

Czechoslovakia model Paulina Porizkova caught the attention of social media last week by sharing a video of herself crying following the death of her husband, Ric Ocasek, in 2019.

The Cars frontman died at 75 from cardiovascular disease.

In the crying clip, she said on the one-year anniversary she was trying to make sure everyone around her was okay; on the third anniversary, she was trying to manage her new life, and on the fourth anniversary, she met someone new.

Now, she has reflected on what drove her to breaking point on the five-year anniversary of his death.

“In some ways, it was a day made even more difficult by the fact in all the previous years I pretended I was fine,” she said.

“That I ‘had pulled it together.’ For the benefit of my loved ones, I thought I had to act strong. To keep helming the ship. So no one but me would be afraid of drowning.”

She said this resulted in everyone around her thinking she was “fine” and not having any clue about what she was going through or that she needed a hand.

“So, five years later, I let everyone know how I felt. I was sad. I was overwhelmed. Sentimental. And by admitting it out loud, I’ve had many other people reach out to let me know they had similar days,” she said.

“That five years after their loved ones passing was unusually difficult. That all of us in the grief club can have odd days of real struggle. And I made them feel better and less alone. And it goes without saying, they made me feel better and less alone.

“Thank you friends, both IRL and IG. I need you as much as ever.”

The 59-year-old and her husband announced they had split in May 2018, but it had in fact taken place the year before.

However, they continued to live together and support each other. The pair met thanks to the 1984 film clip to the Cars song, “Drive.” They married five years later when Porizkova was just 24.
