Harvey Weinstein is recovering, but ‘in a lot of pain’ following emergency heart surgery: rep

Convicted rapist and disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein is recovering from emergency heart surgery at Bellevue Hospital but remains “in a lot of pain,” his representative said.

Weinstein, 72, was rushed to the hospital on Monday from Rikers Island, where he is being held ahead of his retrial for sex crimes.

“He’s in the ICU recovering from a heart procedure — that’s all the updates we have,” Craig Rothfeld, Weinstein’s prison consultant, told The Post.

Rothfeld, who said he spoke to Weinstein Monday, said that the former movie mogul is “in a lot of pain.”

“He had chest pains, he was having trouble breathing, he had a bad cough,” Rothfeld added.

It’s unclear when Weinstein may be released, he said, claiming his client required additional medical care for spinal stenosis, high blood pressure and his thyroid and diabetic complications.

“We’re actively working to keep him there,” Rothfeld said.

Judah Engelmayer, another Weinstein representative, also confirmed that the Miramax co-founder had previously been taken to Bellevue Hospital for what he described as “heart issues.”

“Since earlier, no more news yet,” Engelmayer told The Post. “I can’t give you anymore detail.”

Jeanette Merrill, a spokesperson for NYC Health and Hospitals and Correctional Health Services, confirmed Weinstein was still hospitalized Monday evening – but also declined to comment on his condition due to “privacy concerns.”

“Weinstein is a patient at Bellevue Hospital,” Merill said. “He left Rikers on a three-hour (ambulatory) hospital run.”

Weinstein, who has has denied that he raped or sexually assaulted anyone, had been scheduled to appear for a pre-trial hearing in Manhattan Supreme Court on Thursday.

He has been back and forth from Bellevue and Rikers’ medical wing several times since being moved back to New York City after his sex crimes conviction and 23-year sentence was overturned in April.

The New York State Court of Appeals found in the stunning split ruling that the trial judge erred by allowing testimony from three women whose allegations weren’t directly tied to the case.

In May, city officials transferred Weinstein back to Rikers after it was reported that he’d been treated to special perks at Bellevue like a phone, a private bathroom and a television.

A new trial, which Manhattan prosecutors say could include fresh sexual assault charges, has been tentatively scheduled for Nov. 12.

Weinstein remains behind bars despite the high court’s decision because he was separately sentenced to 16 years in prison by a California court for raping an Italian model in 2013.
