Former President Donald Trump’s campaign reported a mammoth haul in donations for September and an average of $60 per donor, positioning him to have the resources to swamp the airwaves from now to Election Day.
Filings with the Federal Election Commission show the Trump campaign raked in over $160 last month across multiple committees and still holds $283 million in the bank heading into October. Both raising and spending will be key in October, a time when most undecided voters finally tune in and begin to make up their minds about both candidates. The number also represents a significant jump from Trump’s August numbers when he raised about $30 million less.

“President Trump continues to inspire millions of everyday Americans to join his America First movement and help fuel the campaign with their hard-earned money. In September, nearly 2.5 million donations under $200 were made,” Trump campaign senior advisor Brian Hughes said in a statement to Spectrum News. “These supporters have allowed us to bank the funds we need as we move into the campaign’s final weeks.”
The breadth of small-dollar support for President Trump is similarly stunning. His average benefactor gave just $60 while 95% of all donations were $200 or less, another sign that millions of Americans are opening their wallets, and may do so again. The Republican continued on the fundraising circuit Wednesday when he appeared in Midland, Texas for a high-dollar fundraiser at the home of oil tycoon Jeffrey Hildebrand and his wife Melinda Hildebrand. Despite President Joe Biden’s tacit acknowledgment that domestic drilling must expand, oil and gas executives have buoyed Trump’s bottom line instead.

Another advantage President Trump enjoys this late in the season is the large drop-off in legal bills from his various criminal and civil cases. In July the U.S. Supreme Court handed down a ruling granting sitting or former presidents sweeping immunity for official acts, and shortly after a federal judge dismissed Trump’s classified documents case after finding that special counsel Jack Smith had been improperly appointed. Trump’s hush money trial came to an ignominious close while his election interference trial in Georgia has ground to a halt as the embattled Democratic prosecutor fights to keep her job. At the height of his legal ensnarements, Trump was spending upwards of $50 million per month on attorney fees.
