Kevin Costner hints at possible ‘Yellowstone’ return: ‘That story is not finished’

Back in the saddle.

Kevin Costner, 69, said he may not be done with “Yellowstone” quite yet.

In an interview with ET published on Tuesday, the Oscar winner said that making the show has been “a wonderful part of my life.”

“And who knows, some things have a way of circling back,” he continued. “I haven’t seen that dust trail coming towards me, but I’ve always been open to what I started. Five seasons was a lot for us to do, and I think that story is not finished.”

He suggested it “can go on” because his character, John Dutton, has children, “so make the story about them.”

The ranch drama follows the Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana, including patriarch John (Costner) and his adult children: Kayce (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Beth’s husband, Rip (Cole Hauser).

The second half of Season 5 will premiere Nov. 10 on Paramount Network.

Costner has confirmed that he’s not returning to the show — but footage of him appears in the trailer for the final episodes. There’s also voiceover of him saying, “Legacy. You build something worth having, someone is gonna try and take it.”

Costner exited the series in a cloud of drama amid a rumored feud with showrunner Taylor Sheridan.

In May, Costner gave an interview to Deadline slamming the show’s producers for “bulls–t” drama, and he said the show had “no scripts” to film Season 5 with.

In June, Costner took to Instagram to tell his fans in a video that he’s focusing on making his epic four-part Western movie “Horizon: An American Saga,” which got tepid reviews and tanked at the box office.

“I just want to reach out and let you know that after this long year and a half of working on ‘Horizon’ and doing all the things that that’s required, thinking about ‘Yellowstone,’ that beloved series that I love, that I know you love. I just realized that I’m not going to be able to continue, season five or into the future.”

The “Waterworld” star added, “I loved it and I know you loved it. I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be returning. I love the relationships that I’ve been able to develop. And I’ll see you at the movies.”

Costner’s words about the show “continuing” and following John’s kids may be true.

On Aug. 27, Puck was the first to report that there may be a Season 6. The Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Deadline subsequently confirmed the story.

Paramount has remained silent about the possibility of a Season 6 and declined to comment. However, it would reportedly focus on John’s daughter, Beth Dutton, and her husband, Rip Wheeler.

With no official word from the network, Season 5 is still “the final season” — for now.

As Costner stands on the cusp of turning 70, the outlet also asked him what he’s looking forward to in his next decade.

The father of seven joked that he has more free time now that his kids can drive and he doesn’t have to act like their personal Uber.

“That’s gonna free me up,” he said.

“My eyes are wide open to what the possibilities are.”

He added that he’s willing to “step through the next door that opens up to me that seems interesting.”
