Top Democrat Caught Accepting Bribes for Votes in ‘Favor of Donors’

Democrat Jackson City, Mississippi, councilwoman Angelique Lee was charged with accepting bribes of luxury items and other gifts for votes in favor of donors.

Angelique Lee accepted $19,000 in cash and luxury items from February 2024 to March 2024, according to court documents.

Those gifts came from an unindicted co-conspirator.

Lee agreed to shut down a road and vote to approve a real estate development in a deal involving undercover FBI agents.

The two FBI agents pretended to be real estate developers from Nashville, Tennessee, to snare Lee.

Lee was later forced to forfeit Valentino shoes, a Christian Louboutin bag, and a pair of Louboutin sandals.

She resigned in August after being hit with bribery charges.

Sentencing for Angelique Lee is scheduled for November 13.

WJTV reported:

According to court documents, the hearing for Angelique Lee will be continued until further order from the federal court. She was scheduled to be sentenced on November 13, 2024.

In August 2024, Lee resigned from the Jackson City Council after she was charged with conspiracy to commit bribery.

Prosecutors said the former Ward 2 councilwoman accepted cash, deposits and other gifts for her future votes in favor of two unidentified individuals’ proposed real estate development project in the City of Jackson. Both individuals were confidential human sources employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The documents showed that Lee accepted $19,000 from February 2024 to March 2024.

Lee was ordered to forfeit several items, including more than $13,000 in U.S. currency, a pair of Valentino wedge sandals, a Christian Louboutin tote bag, and a pair of Christian Louboutin sandals.

Lees’ resignation came after the FBI seized Lee’s cell phone on the same day agents raided the offices of Hinds County District Attorney Jody Owens.

Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba said the process to fill Lee’s seat on the council will begin immediately

“While I am saddened to see her step down, I fully respect her decision and support her in her future endeavors,” Lumumba said.

“On behalf of the entire city, I want to express my deep gratitude for her service and dedication.”

“We will miss her leadership on the council, but we know she will continue to be a passionate advocate for our community in other ways.”
