Willo, a recruitment technology startup, has raised $2.4 million in new funding.

Founded in 2018, Willo provides companies in over 180 countries with technology to conduct and process video interviews for job candidates. Based in Glasgow, Scotland, the startup works with brands like Prada, Samsung, and Toyota to make their hiring processes more efficient.

Willo began as a tool for businesses to hire sales teams without going through reams of physical resumes. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it pivoted to become a solution for hiring remotely using video technology. The company offers one-way recorded video interviews to help employers get what it describes as unbiased and consistent responses from candidates. Its platform has been used to hire 633,000 people, according to Willo’s pitch deck.

“We’ve grown into a more mature product now, with companies able to interview in many different ways,” Euan McCameron, CEO at Willo, told Business Insider. “We’re now able to leverage the data from thousands of interviews to let employers see summaries of candidates and query things using AI.”

The company has secured the ISO20071 verification, an independent information security standard, but still has room to scale and grow its offering, McCameron added.

The new funding comes in the form of a $2.4 million equity raise, with the bulk of the capital coming from the family office of Peter Bauer, cofounder and former CEO of IT security company Mimecast, alongside additional funds from existing investors. This raise takes Willo’s total funding to $4.5 million.

McCameron said Willo will increase its headcount from around 15 staff to 25 as it looks to expand in the US, where it plans to establish a more substantial presence.
