Netflix’s ‘One Tree Hill’ sequel series sparks negative fan frenzy: ‘Leave it alone!’

The “One Tree Hill” sequel series isn’t getting the fan reaction that Netflix wanted.

Sources revealed to Variety on Friday that the early 2000s teen drama is getting a reboot on the streaming giant that will include two of the original main cast members. The insiders said the sequel series was already in the works, with Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton and Danneel Ackles producing the project.

Bush and Burton, both 42, are allegedly reprising their roles as Brooke Davis and Peyton Sawyer, respectively.

Despite the star power, fans don’t seem interested.

“Let us live 😭 stop with the remakes 😭,” one person pleaded after the reboot made headlines. “Every sequel is A MISTAKE! (and produce by Netflix?????? ☠️☠️☠️,” wrote another. “No, no, no! Leave it alone! Finished perfectly @netflix #OneTreeHill #Netflix,” begged a third.

The original cast included James Lafferty as Nathan Scott, Chad Michael Murray as Lucas Scott, Bethany Joy Lenz as Haley James Scott and Paul Johansson as Dan Scott.

Many former viewers noted that a sequel series only makes sense with the entire core group involved. Others brought up cast feuds and all the alleged behind-the-scenes tension with “One Tree Hill” creator Mark Schwahn, which Bush, Burton and Lenz exposed on the “Drama Queens” podcast. It’s worth noting that Burton is no longer part of the podcast.

“I just realized we’ll never have the core One Tree Hill cast on screen cause Sophia and Chad still can’t be in the same room to this day [and] Joy and Hilarie are not on speaking terms. I also doubt James will ever do an appearance without joy … so sad,” shared an upset fan.

“Not that I don’t love One Tree Hill but a reboot being filmed when half of the cast don’t even mess with each other anymore is crazy,” posted a second.

Bush and Murray married in April 2005 during the second season of “One Tree Hill.” They split five months later, and the breakup was nasty. Bush requested to have their short-lived marriage annulled after accusing her ex of fraud, but her request was denied.

They finalized their bitter divorce in December 2006.

In July, Bush and Lenz revealed Burton was taking a step back from their iHeartRadio podcast and was being replaced with “new queen” Robert Buckley, who joined the “One Tree Hill” cast in Season 7 as sports agent Clay Evans.

However, fans didn’t believe the women were being truthful about Burton’s exit, pointing to a series of clues that seemed to prove there was tension between the trio.

Many noticed that Burton and Lenz weren’t following each other on Instagram but were following Bush. Deuxmoi also shared a tip that claimed Lenz’s political views, particularly her opinions about LGBTQ+ rights, drew a wedge between them — especially after Bush started dating female soccer star Ashlyn Harris.

None of the women have addressed the feud speculation; however, they had plenty to say about Schwahn, including a horrific story about him allegedly threatening two of them into posing for Maxim against their will.

As for the reboot, Ackles, 45, who played Rachel Gatina on the original WB/CW television drama, will serve as the executive producer under her Chaos Machine banner with her husband, “Supernatural” star Jensen Ackles, 46, per Variety. “Firefly Lane” producer Becky Hartman Edwards is attached to write and executive produce.

It’s unclear if any of the other original cast members will join the reboot.
