American Eagle Gives Symbolic Middle Finger To Critics Of Sydney Sweeney Ad Campaign

American Eagle issued a simple statement Friday after critics sounded off about their campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney.

The ads sparked backlash from online trolls that felt they was oversexualized. Some claimed American Eagle put too much focus on Sweeney being white, blonde, blue-eyed woman in what one called “Nazi dog whistles”

They re-stated the campaign’s tagline — the very line that seemingly jolted their haters.

“‘Sydney Sweeney has great Jeans’ is and always about the jeans,’” they wrote on Instagram.

The sultry ad focused on Sweeney’s figure. In one clip, Sweeney seems to make a play on the words ‘jeans’ and ‘genes.’

“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality and even eye color,” she says. “My jeans are blue.”

American Eagle’s statement was short and direct.

The brand made it clear they fully support Sweeney and the message of the campaign, and brushed off the backlash without flinching.

“Her jeans. Her story,” the social media post read.

They reiterated that the criticism didn’t sway their perspective at all and unapologetically stood their ground.

“We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way.”

They put the matter to rest by closing off with the message, “Great jeans look good on everyone.” (RELATED: Critics Attack Sydney Sweeney Over New Endorsement Ad. Everyone’s Missing Big Picture)
