Heart-pounding video captures Michigan cop scaling moving vehicles to prevent ‘tragic situation’

Epic video footage captured the moment a fearless Michigan deputy climbed out of a moving patrol vehicle into a moving car to help an elderly motorist who’d lost control behind the wheel.

The traffic footage caught Macomb County Sheriff’s Deputy Nicole Miron hanging out of the passenger side window of the police cruiser while attempting to enter the driver’s side window of the pickup truck that was traveling erratically on the busy Mount Clemens roadway.

“I don’t think I even hit the side of the truck or anything,” Miron told Fox2 News.

“I did a clear jump in, and put the vehicle in park, and here we are.”

The incident occurred around 2:18 p.m. on Sept. 12 when deputies received reports that a silver GMC Sierra truck was driving erratically, according to the sheriff’s department news release.

Deputies spotted the truck and activated their emergency lights and siren, but the 63-year-old male driver failed to stop and continued traveling at approximately 5 p.m., appearing in a daze and unable to comprehend the requests, the sheriff’s office said.

“He wasn’t responding when we were trying to pull him over, the lights, the sirens, nothing like that,” Miron told the outlet. “As we got on the side, you could see he was in a daze, he was an elderly gentleman.”

Eventually, the driver of the truck rolled down his window and briefly hit his brakes before the heroic deputy, who had been in the passenger side of the patrol vehicle, exited the window of the sheriff’s SUV and climbed into the truck while the two vehicles continued moving.

Deputy Anthony Gross — a trainee with two weeks on the job — was driving the patrol car while Miron engaged the driver. Gross said the elderly driver went through “a couple of red lights” but he was focused on making sure “everything was going to be alright.”

“I was just looking at his driver mirror and my passenger mirror and just tried to line it up that way,” Gross told the outlet. “Luckily everybody else was dispersing because we had our lights and sirens on.”

Miron was able to stop the vehicle once inside the truck. She then called a family member to confirm the driver’s medical condition, officials said.

The driver was transported to an area hospital for treatment.

Macomb County Sheriff Anthony Wickersham praised Miron for putting herself in harm’s way to not only aid the driver but also protect other motorists on the road.

“Due to her quick thinking and selfless actions, she safely ended what could have been a tragic situation,” Wickersham said.
