INGERSOLL: Oh, So This Is The Trump ‘Retribution’ That Freaked Them All Out

Below is State of the Day, a morning newsletter by Daily Caller Editor-at-Large Geoff Ingersoll. Sign up here.

Greetings, Dear Reader,

Here we are again, State of the Day, where my mantra is that I shoot straight, no euphemism, no misdirection, no bull, all burn, no mixer.

The least surprising news of all time busted open yesterday for all to see, glistening like newly revealed bone under a desert sun.

Like bones, we always knew they were there, just under the skin.

WE ALWAYS KNEW

James Comey. Adam Schiff. Eric Swalwell. Congressional staffers. FBI staffers. Members of the media. The Washington Post. The New York Times. CNN. Marriages, sometimes literally, between all three.

The depths of the conspiracy to hobble Trump’s first term with spurious accusations that he was secretly a Putin stooge in a Russian plot to take over America are at once astonishing and not at all surprising.

FBI Director Kash Patel, in tandem with Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, have released yet another tranche of documents outlining how exactly this utterly feverish delusion was etched into American discourse for the better part of a decade.

Comey directed his staff to “assist” The New York Times. Adam Schiff “terminated” a House intel staffer who raised concerns about selective leaking of classified intelligence. Eric Swalwell “had to be counseled” to “be more careful” when leaking “a lot” of intel.

And where’d it go? The Washington Post. The Wall Street Journal. CNN. The New York Times. All a bunch of credulous, dutiful stenographers at the time. Little birdies cheep-cheeping with their mouths agape, waiting for one of the aforementioned principals to come along and vomit something.

The sheer breadth of willing media receptacles at the end of this human centipede of bullsh*t led one independent analyst to remark, “If this was the Titanic leaking like this, DiCaprio wouldn’t have made it out of steerage.”

The biggest leak of them all, the one that got Flynn investigated, fired, put through the legal gamut, and nearly imprisoned? Comey and Co. made sure “167 individuals” had access to information about the call.

What better smoke screen for leaking a bugged conversation to the press than a company-sized element of people in the know?

And the boldness of it all.

“The leak of classified information is a threat to national security, strains our relationships, and limits the intelligence others are willing to share. A thorough investigation must be undertaken. And those responsible must be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law.”

Guess who said that? Adam Schiff! It was 2023 and he was referring to leaks that showed American officials might be (okay, okay, were almost certainly) embellishing Ukraine’s chances to win the war, but nevertheless …

Schiff calling for investigations of intel leakers is like Larry Flynt lamenting the corrosive effect of pornography.

Well, we might be in luck as far as justice goes, Dear Reader.

Schiff is now being investigated by AG Jeanine Pirro, and the statute of limitations can be extended to 10 years if the leak was knowingly and willingly intended.

Yikes!

Is this the “retribution” they were so scared would come?
