Juan Williams Suggests Real Reason Kamala Isn’t Running For Governor

Juan Williams suggested on Fox News Wednesday that former Vice President Kamala Harris’ decision not to run for California governor stems from disappointing internal polling numbers.

Harris announced on X that she will not run, following reports that she had been weighing her political future, including a potential 2028 White House bid. During an appearance on “Special Report with Bret Baier,” Williams said internal polling numbers may have been the real reason behind Harris’ change of heart.

“She got a little bit of a shock when she looked at some of those internal polling numbers and saw that, you know, despite having run for president, there was no overwhelming support for her in running for the governor’s office in California,” Williams said.

There is, he added, a rising frustration among Democrats.

“I must say, you don’t hear a lot of people on the ground saying, ‘Oh yeah, we want her to come right back.’ You know, the larger point here about Harris and about the Democrats is they’re looking for a leader,” Williams said. “They’re looking for messages.”

Williams implied Harris could be eyeing a 2028 presidential run.

“I think that might be where we’re going here,” Williams told host Bret Baier.

After losing the presidential election in 2024, Harris told her aides she wanted to keep the door open for her political future, sources told Politico. As she deliberated, her staff worked to craft a message that targeted President Donald Trump while solidifying her role in the Democratic Party.

Williams also pointed to polling data showing a difficult road ahead for Republicans in the upcoming midterms, predicting a significant loss. (RELATED: ‘We’re Going To Defy History’: Mike Johnson Makes Bold Prediction About GOP’s Future)

“Redistricting, as was just pointed out, is something they are all consolidated in their anger at. Right now, though, I think when you look at the whole redistricting map, it’s about panic on the part of Republicans,” Williams said. “Tony Fabrizio, the pollster, you know, works with President Trump, has said it’s an uphill slog given the historical reality that parties in power typically lose big in midterms.”

Williams said that the upcoming election could bring major shifts to Congress.

“And it’s going to be right now predicted. People are, what they’re talking about is far more than five seats going in the Democrats’ direction,” Williams said.

Meanwhile, House Speaker Mike Johnson confidently predicted on CNN that the Republican Party will defy historical trends and expand its majority in the House of Representatives during the upcoming midterm elections. Despite the typical pattern of a sitting president’s party losing seats in the first midterm, Johnson said he believes in the GOP’s success.
