JUST IN: Georgia School Shooter Was Stopped By Armed Resource Officer

The gunman who shot students and staff at Apalachee High School in Barrow County, Georgia was stopped by an armed school resource officer, police have announced.

According to current reports, at least four are dead and nine additional students or staff members have been wounded as a result of the shooting. Two of the deceased victims have been identified as teachers while the other two are students.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI)  has also released the name of the gunman, 14-year-old Colt Gray, a student at the high school. He is expected to be tried as an adult.

In a brief press conference, Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith explained how the gunman’s rampage was stopped. “Obviously the shooter was armed and our school resource officer engaged him. And the shooter quickly realized that if he did not give up, that it would end with an OIS, an officer involved in shooting. He gave up, got on the ground, and the deputy took him into custody,” Smith told reporters.

According to the GBI, officers responded to Apalachee High School after reports of a shooting shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
