Mother Of Rising Country Artist Dies Tragically In Home Invasion

The mother of up-and-coming country singer Spencer Hatcher died August 3 after a horrific attack inside her own home.

Holly Hatcher was inside her home when 41-year-old Kevin Moses Walker of Maryland allegedly broke in and fatally stabbed her, Whiskey Riff reported August 11, citing police.

The outlet reported that Holly’s husband, Michael Hatcher, allegedly shot Walker. Michael reported the home invasion to police late Sunday, according to the Whiskey Riff. Police reportedly discovered Walker deceased on the driveway after he was allegedly shot by Michael.

Police described a series of events leading up to Hatcher’s tragic death.

According to Whiskey Riff, police determined Walker rented a campsite at Endless Caverns in Virginia August 1 and eventually took a tour of the caves. He allegedly purchased a sleeping bag and a large knife at a local Walmart, the outlet reported.

The following day, police responded to a report of an abandoned vehicle near the caves, and they also discovered a car likely rammed into the store at Endless Caverns. Nothing was stolen during the apparent burglary, the outlet reported. Authorities determined Walker had entered the store and the caves, and they issued a felony warrant for his arrest, according to the Whiskey Riff.

Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson looked into Walker’s history and found no previous arrests.

“There was no indication of any violence or potential for any violence from the offender that the Virginia State Police became aware of throughout that investigation,” he stated, according to Whiskey Riff.

Spencer issued an Instagram statement on August 6.

“It’s with a heavy heart and overwhelming sadness that — due to a monumental loss in our family – I must cancel my upcoming shows at VOA Country Music Fest in Butler County, OH (8/8) and at Rockingham County Fair in Harrisonburg, VA (8/11 & 8/12),” he wrote.

“I appreciate everyone that has lent their support to me and my loved ones. We ask that everyone please respect our family’s privacy at this time,” he continued.

Whiskey Riff reported that police did not file charges because the only suspect was deceased.

Holly was a beloved teacher in the area and had reportedly taught Hutcheson’s son.

“I’ve been in law enforcement for 31 years and I have never seen anything like this in my entire career,” Hutcheson said during a press conference, according to Whiskey Riff.

Police and the Hatcher family issued a joint video statement August 7 on Facebook.

Michael thanked those that showed support after the terrible tragedy.

“There’s going to be questions that will never be answered, but all I can tell you is we’ve cried, we’ve hurt, and we’ve hugged, and we have found more love than we have ever known has existed between us, and between you…” he said, according to Whiskey Riff.

“You have made it much more bearable through your outpouring of love and your caring and your kindness and support to all of us,” he continued.
