A new YouGov poll confirms that normal Americans aren’t too offended by American Eagle’s new ad campaign featuring actress Sydney Sweeney.
And that’s certainly not a shocker. Of course, the backlash to the ad came mostly from left-wing scolds obsessed with race and jealous of Sweeney. (Subscribe to MR. RIGHT, a free weekly newsletter about modern masculinity)
YouGov has Sweeney data – 12% of Americans find it offensive.
The gender gap is bigger than the political gap on whether the ad is “offensive” (7% of men, 17% of women)
Men are also more likely to find the ad “clever” (49% of men, 31% of women). pic.twitter.com/SMQGsWM66S

According to the poll, only 12% of Americans found it “offensive.” That number sounds about right. Most well-adjusted people who don’t spend their days refreshing the MSNBC opinion section every minute or combing through LGBT Reddit threads are going to find the ad perfectly normal. Maybe not clever, and maybe not offensive, but just a typical advertisement that relies on the most tried-and-true strategy ever: sex sells. JUST IN: American Eagle refuses to apologize in a new statement posted to Instagram after receiving backlash for their Sydney Sweeney ad.
The new statement is already being met with more backlash from angered liberals.

Breaking the poll down by gender, 7% of men found it offensive, compared to 17% of women.
Frankly, I’m shocked by these two numbers. I would expect the number of men wouldn’t even hit the 1% mark, and that women who found it offensive — not because of the ad’s pun on “genes” and “jeans,” but because they are jealous of Sweeney — would be higher, around 40%.
Who are these men, these pesky seven-percenters?
They are certainly either gay, closeted, liberal and working in the media or politics, a man sucking up to his liberal girlfriend, or some combination of those traits.
There is simply no way a normal straight man would find the ad offensive. It’s simply impossible.
